A Winter Embrace

Prelude to This

She sat on the old wooden stool, her back in a rigid posture with her fingers nimbly playing a melody on the pianoforte. It was Schubert, one of her favourites. She had always loved the rough silky texture of the black and white keys, that when felt by her delicate fingers gave birth to a world of its own.

Her fingers came to a halt as she let out a tired sigh, the piece had ended. He was too mesmerized to even applaud. It was then when she curtsied to him, that he broke out of his trance and clapped. Realizing it was nearing sundown and that they were the only ones in the small chapel, he interrupted the quiet.

“I fear the weather has taken a turn for the ghastly. Would you like a ride home mademoiselle?” he spoke in a very aristocratic manner.

“Ah! Just the offer I was waiting for my kind sir,” she replied in earnest taking his proffered arm.
Not able to hold it any longer, she let out a giggle at their playful disposition and he joined her. Finally letting themselves out in hopes of searching some abode, safe and sound.

--*--

The weather was exceptionally colder than the last time they had met; this time they were trapped in a small inn due to the sudden snowstorm that had invaded the city. Thankful to have found this inn at some walking distance from the chapel. The wood burning in the fireplace cast a glowing amber about the room, warming it. They sat huddled together on the hard wood polished floor nestling a cup of hot chocolate to warm their insides. They were covered from head to toe, but the shivering was yet to recede as they were wet from the rains earlier and the fresh falling snow.

“I feel like trash. I thought I had one good thing in my life, so that I could start over. I didn’t know that sole being could mess me up more than anything I predicted. Each day I come across things that were mere lies. It’s sickening to know, so bad that unlike last time when I thought I was guilty I now realize I've just been a, prey.” Ayah mumbled eyeing the fireplace.

Yasin let out a frigid breath before taking a sip from his cup. He was startled by the new revelations from Ayah, when she gave him a call a month ago. Patience and time were the only keys to heal her all over again, he realized.

“You just don’t understand how to react. And it’s absolutely understandable that you’re hurting.  Your life in real was never screwed, you gave him the power to rumple it. I daresay it was messed up and confusing but never really screwed.” He responded.

“The more you care the more you suffer. Nada zilch there is nothing that gives people the right to play with someone’s feelings and heart or as a matter of fact taking for granted. I’m sorry for all the troubles I've always caused you, even when you were nursing your own broken heart you were constantly there for me. However, would I repay your kindness?” she cried in earnest.

“Is it something we shouldn’t do then? Care?” replied Yasin, in a tone of surprise and emotion, “Do not embarrass me, for rather I am glad to have been there for you, as you have been for me,” he added after a short pause.

Ayah, still being a bit distracted forged on, “I don’t know, it’s an abstract thing. Care is more important than love. You always love people who you care for but the other way round is not always true. Love can be abusive and obsessive, care cannot.” She paused letting go of the anxiety that gripped her, and forced herself to speak; “I’ve realized not to store my happiness nor sadness in people. They leave us when someone new comes along. And maybe even we leave some. It’s a fast forward world Yasin, you can’t find people waiting for you.”

The conversation had like always reached a point of vulnerability. There was too much said, felt and left unsaid too.

“It taught me to have faith,” said he, “don’t be too sentimental nor wear your heart on your sleeve. People find it easier to exploit you then. But then again don’t become a cold stoic person, who I was on the verge of becoming. Had it not been your frank temperament and playful optimistic outlook, I would have been lost.”

Ayah colored at that and let out a laugh as she replied, “Ah! Yes, you’ve seen me at my best and my worst too. I should not have brushed off your affections all those years ago, would have saved me the heartache.”

“I was certainly wary and devoid of wisdom. I am sure if I was more open and persistent, things would have been different. And we would have never had the misfortune to cross people who left us scarred. Then again, in retrospection I believe it was for the best. The past teaches us awfully lot, doesn’t it?” he asked in an expecting manner.

“It does, it surely does,” replied she.

Uncovering his hands from the woolen mittens and doing the same with hers, he swiftly stood up proffering his hand to her, “May I have the honor to secure the next dance? I believe it’s a waltz,” Yasin asked her politely with mischief filled eyes.

It was indeed the music for waltz that could be heard playing down in the inn ballroom. A blush rose on her cheeks as she daintily placed her hands in his, “It will be my pleasure Sir,” replied she with elation as he led her to the makeshift dance floor.

She could not help smiling at his ease with her, their delightful companionship and most of all his invaluable support and guidance in her time of need. Time passed tardily as snow covered the whole town white, welcoming bliss in the peak of winter.

Kuch Ankahee Baatein...

NOTE: This is guest blog post I wrote for Nelton D'Souza's blog Just A Minute Here's the link to the post http://justamin.blogspot.in/2013/01/kuch-ankhaee-baatein.html

Something in Urdu for a change or rather something written by me apart from reviews and all after long for a change. :)

**
Jazbat aise hue hamse khafa
Hume toh laga hum askho ko hi bhul gae..
Dil mei unki yaadon k sahare,
Hooton pe muskan aur zindagi mei tanhayee
Liye hum yunhi chalte rahe..
Jab ek roz unse nazre mili..
Woh andheka kar ke chale gae..
Uss din dil roya
Aur aankon se aasu beh gaye..

**
woh kehte hai bhula dena mujhe,
na humsafar hun na hamnava,
teri zindagi mei ek rahi hoon..
kal tha kal kya pata...

**

Ek raat aisi aae hai,
Jab teri yaad satae hai…
Andhero mei ghum
Aankhen hai num..
Dhundli hai manzil..
Lekin tanhae hai sang..
Aaj phir ek raat aisi aae hai..
Jab teri yaad dil ko satae hai…

a handful of memories...

Ah! I don't believe I've come this far. When I began writing I had no idea I would write so much that someday I will have my own personal blog and moreover I will be writing a 100th  post. If, someone had told me earlier I would have termed that person insane. Basically reason being I never had faith in my writing nor did others around me had. In fact people who knew me before I began writing were shocked that I can even put two and two words together and create something meaningful. Then again, there came people in my life who had faith in me and my writing and somewhere I owe this 100th post to them.

For me, this isn't really a day for celebration coz one of the most important  person in my life, who had faith in me and my writings and who encouraged me not just to write but everywhere is not in my life. We have parted ways to be very truthful, it's none other than my soul-searched friend to whom I had even dedicated a poem here, but then again situations arise and people walk away and we have to live with that or rather learn to live.

If I'm honest to myself this was one and maybe the only person I ever wrote for. I even planned on quitting writing but somehow I couldn't and the reason being I still write for this person. There are a lot of happy memories and moments, unfulfilled wishes and dreams and most importantly what I shared with this person. I realized if, I let go of my writing I'll let go of myself the little bit of me left completely and I don't think that's fair. I know it won't affect my friend anymore but I wanna think maybe it might, call it denial or madness or just a reason to write, I'm writing and I'll continue till I can.

I even know, this person my friend will maybe never come to my blog again but I wish him a very happy life ahead and I hope his dreams are fulfilled. And that wherever he is at the moment and will be tomorrow may my prayers and my good wishes reach him.

One more thing, before I end I didn't know this was gonna be my 100th post and so I'll post the shayri I had originally intended to post, it is a sad one but nowhere related to this post..just a random poem in urdu, sad but I'm just unable to pen something happy happy at the moment.

Naa jaana meine ye kya hua?
Naa jaanu mei ye kaise hua?
ek pal tha tu...
aur dusre pal hua juda..
dil mera toda tune..
aur ashk meine palkon pe sajae..
saath hai na tu mere..
phir bhi yeh dil sirf tujhe hi kyu chahe ?

I do not want to end on a sad note but I really do not think I can end on a happy note, apart from the fact that it's Diwali and I wish all my readers a Safe and a Happy Diwali :)

Seeking Solace

Seeking Solace

Pleasure and Ecstasy,
Love and Harmony,
Is all what I wish to seek..

Silence and agony,
Pain and misery,
Is all what you give me..

But it's only in dreams,
In a world of my own,
Where you accept and don't reject..

Melbourne Magic

"Memories are like an oasis in the desert sand of time !"

It all started on a sunny morning on 25th of November the life altering day of my life when I and my brother suddenly whisked off our schedule as he surprised me with a trip as my birthday gift and all he said was "it's your time to visit Melbourne NOW!" There was excitement, there was nervousness and with these two as a couple we headed off to experience the exquisite Melbourne.

Dunno where to begin from, the journey to Exquisite Melbourne and back home was nothing short of dreamy! This being my first air journey I was both excited and nervous; with a million questions squirming added with the imaginary beings having a tribal dance in my head. The internal debate finally dissolved after a 10 hour long journey and what came next was something I just can’t describe in words. The fun and frolic was something I’ve never experienced before and that too from my serious brother.

If, I try to write everything down then this post will overflow but there have been places and moments that I can’t help but remember and pen it down.

Gleaming in its Victorian Heritage and Modern lifestyle, this city is referred as “Garden City” and “Cultural capital of Australia”. Buzzing with eclectic and urban lifestyle, it is the most livable city and too me it’s loveable too!

We arrived in the wee hours of morning though tired we felt the subtle sun rise in the dull morning sky whilst travelling to our staying place, the Rendezvous Hotel.

Breakfast was a small affair after which we left for our journey ahead. On the way, we met a nice gentleman, a local of the city who told us about various sites. The narrow lanes, the long walks, the pristine atmosphere and the breath of fresh air greeted us on the way to Melbourne Visitor Centre for maps and free brochures.

After gathering the necessary information we headed off to, NVG Australia: Ian Potter Centre, the first public art museum dedicated to Australian art.

Arts and History has always fascinated me and I was thrilled to see such beautiful paintings and drawings depicting an entirely different culture from the one I grew up in.

After spending about an hour there, we headed off to our next destination Melbourne Aquarium. Our journey began from Antarctica the starting point that housed the cute Penguins followed by the Weird and Wonderful creatures like sea jellies, sea horses and a variety of others.

The River to Reef section housed animals like frogs, crabs, snakes and sea jellies depicting the wonderful marine life. The Southern Ocean was the last stop in the aquarium that included Sharks and other fishes.

Girls and shopping go hand in hand and so our next stop was the Victoria Market. I was surprised when I noticed that it was not just a typical market where you got fresh produce but also clothing and stuff. The cool air was wafting ruffling our hair though not snapping the smiles of our face. Walking down the road we were spell bound by the cheery and vibrant atmosphere in the market.

We were famished and so our next stop was Bambini Barrista, were we had a cuppa of freshly brewed coffee and sandwiches. It was there that my bro surprised me with a Happy Birthday chocolate cake and the local crowd also wished me, this is what I remember as our “Golden Moment of the Trip.”

Having sated our souls with a delicious meal we moved to our next destination, the Medibank Icehouse. ice It’s Australia’s latest world class ice sports and entertainment venue. It was fun there, as I being a clumpy girl slipped a few times but all in good mood.

When I finally thought this is the end of my eventful day, but my brother surprised me once again and we headed off to our last destination, Eureka Skydeck 88. The view from the top of the tower was awe aspiring. We clicked a few snaps of the beautiful sky with different shades of golden, blue and hues of pink finally settling to a dark black with the night lights gleaming down the city.

Having seen that and visiting some of the places we could cover in our mini getaway, we headed back to our hotel for a night stay and boarded a flight back to our India the next morning, treasuring a beautiful experience that will forever be etched in the crevices of our minds and hearts. And this trip was made easier due to  www.visitmelbourne.com/in.

EPHEMERAL AURA (Nathan-Patricia-Emily)

A short series in which I’ll highlight Nathan's behavior post Patricia walked in his life and how he is struggling to accept the fact that somewhere down the line he has betrayed Emily and also the thought process of what are Patricia ’s motives.

Prologue:

Change is the law of life but what if a blast from your past shows up and disrupts the peace and tarnishes the innocence. Is there really something you can do to stop the changes or you must accept fate and go with the flow.

MOMENTS

This post has been published by me as a part of the Blog-a-Ton 20; the twentieth edition of the online marathon of Bloggers; where we decide and we write. To be part of the next edition, visit and start following Blog-a-Ton.

MOMENTS

(This is actually the Post #5...a continuation from this series Post #4)

"As the rain drops caress my soul, let them caress yours too,
Let your guards down and enjoy the heavenly pleasure
of soaking in contentment and glee,
Gathering happy memories with you and giving way to more,
Letting your mistakes and past flow and purify you to the core,
Enjoy this wonderful weather...
With a smile and joy in your eyes like I do !"

The December rains always leave me in a trance, heavy rainfall accompanied by snowfall later mesmerizes me as the weather is considerably below and beautiful and that adds to the unending expanse of scenic beauty as romance is in the air.

Unlike other days, today I'm sitting by the window pane and enjoying the pleasant and exotic beauty of nature contemplating how there was a time when I freely twirled and swirled in the rains and soaked my soul and was the most boisterous girl in the locality, but now I just admire and enjoy the beauty silently just like a demure soul. It is not that I'm a shy person or that melancholy has hit me oft recently it's just I'm observing and looking at life through a different angle. I'm not ignorant but an observant, "Joys and sorrows are a part and parcel of life, one sleeps whilst the other is awake!"  I learnt this from him I learnt a lot from him. He showed me the true meaning of love, concern and friendship. When people sympathized with me, he was empathetic to me. He was like the light in darkness and penetrated my abode with ease when others found it crooky. And though we may be apart, we are very much together.

"Twirling and swirling in the rain,
Drenching my soul,
A lone tear escapes...
I wonder and let out a sigh."

Somewhere, same time he was walking through crooked lanes and narrow roads and enjoying the ethereal beauty of nature, he was not much of a person who admired nature but since the advent of her in his life he gained joy even in the smallest of things. Children danced and giggled in the rains, vendors sold their stuff each and everything was peaceful amidst the chaos. He felt like a free bird, raring and exuberant exploring the world and a thousand Watt smile lingered on his face remembering the words, "Hey, Mayank you walking with an umbrella in these rains? I know its an absurd question to ask but God you seriously don't know how to savor such a beautiful moment!" Tamanna's words rang loudly in his mind.

With that he folded his umbrella and was contented covering the further journey soaking himself completely. He imagined Tamanna dancing in the rains and urging him to join her; the one girl who taught him to enjoy small moments of life despite the fact being a little depressed herself at times. She was really an enigma to him, and there she called him a mystery waiting to unfold. A lone tear escaped his eyes just remembering those beautiful moments!

P.S: The girl described earlier in the first para is Tamanna.

Two Time in a Row!

Alright...This is the first time I'm getting an award and to be frank I'm too happy as I din get it from 1 person but 2 people and I'm really grateful to them that they liked my work and well thought of me to be worthy of it. It means a lot and the joy I'm experiencing at the moment is much more than I can describe in words!

Thanks a lot Eon and Valli for this award, I do not have words to thank you guys, I was just about to post a Thank You in the morning to Eon when I came to know that even Valli has given me one and I was surprised to react at that moment ! And to be true, these two people are awesome poets...they weave a certain magic and transport you in a different world....not everyone can write beautifully poems and they are the ones who write really well!!!

Now comes 7 things about me and myself:

1) I'm the most unpredictable girl you'll ever come across and my mood changes just like the wind.

2) I can be very philosophical at times and a complete opposite the other.

3) I'm in love with darkness more than the light and find it to be more enchanting, powerful and positive than light.

4) A real big chatterbox and it need not be said coz those who know me do know this aspect very well.

5) I can be selfish and diplomatic at times and not give a damn to the other person's feelings at times, though  I'm a sensitive person.

6) I never knew I had a flair for writing until after my 11th std when one of my friends accidentally read one of my quotes and a small verse.

7) Last but not the least I'm very lazy and I love to sleep, can sleep anywhere at any given hour even in a lecture if I find it boring, that's one real bad thing about me.

I would like to pass on this award to: ( Names Arranged as they come in Blog List)
